The Romancers



“The Romancers” is light-hearted romance about two young lovers discovering that love can exist without obstacles and the excitement of danger. Their fathers are enemies so they secretly meet at the wall which divides their estate and their affections. This swashbuckling comedy is reminiscent of“Romeo and Juliet” without the tragedy! "The Romancers" is produced by Dassel-Cokato Community Education and performed by nineteen local actors & musicians. This production was written in 1894 by Edmond Rostand, who later became famous with his writing of “Cyrano de Bergerac”. Award-winning director, David Metcalf of Cokato, directs this production.

Six performances are scheduled in the intimate setting of the Dassel History Center and Ergot Museum, 901 First Street North, Dassel (located 4 blocks north of MN Hwy. 12.) One Dinner Theatre performance is schedule for March 7. Complementary desserts will be served beginning one hour prior to all other performances.

Performance Schedule: 3 Evening Dessert Performances: Friday February 27, Saturday February 28 and Friday March 6, 7:00 p.m. 2 Matinee Dessert Performances: Sundays, March 1 and 8, 2:00 p.m. and one Dinner Theatre Performance: Saturday, March 7, 6:00 p.m.

Principal roles are played by Amanda Byrne, Nate Byrne, Jon Benson, Ron Hungerford and Tom Langemo, with twelve additional cast members: Tom Nelson, Elisabeth Nelson, Neal Hungerford, Becky Hungerford, James Frickstad, William Frickstad, Jade Johnson, Shara Marquez, Sam Rydberg, Mike Ackerman, Lisa Kotila, Deb Moen and two additional musicians.

Summer Community Theatre Production Announced

Dassel-Cokato Community Theatre is also excited to announce their summer musical production will be “Pirates of Penzance”, performed at the Dassel-Cokato Performing Arts Center. Open auditions will be held May 23 and May 26 and six performances are scheduled, July 18-26. This production will also be directed by David Metcalf.

This activity is also made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the SW MN Arts Council, thanks to legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
